Dustin:

Is the Planet doing the Green Campsite Challenge like they did at RG last year in Town Park?

That's going to be soooo interesting.  A lot of competition.  We could start one of those charts they make for ball games on who's going to win.  Is that gambling?   EEK!  Maybe the winner gets beer, then it's not gambling - right? :)

What would the festival veterans say are the basic requirements for a green campsite?

Things like:
separate campsite containers for trash, compost and recycling,
no disposable water bottles,
solar-powered blenders,
etc

what else, folks?

Let's get a list together of what your campsite should have to be considered "green?" (in addition to the recycled festival beer cup with New Belgium stickers from the last four years of Bluegrass fest)

A campsite that packs everything out that it brought in, minus recycling, compost, and a tiny bit of trash  Thumbs Up

At home, to cut down on resource usage we follow Homer Simpson's advice:

"Now, kids, while your mother's gone, I don't want to have to wash any dishes, so from now on, drink straight from the faucet or milk carton, and we'll eat while standing over the sink or toilet."   Medal

Let me give ya a fer example....

The dish drain rack that Run-A-Muck will be using this year is a lovely pre-owned chrome scissor model, purchased from a Goodwill Store. It will sit next to our pre-owned stainless steal sink and the entire dish washing area will adorne the top of an antique 6' table that I'm pretty sure was rescued (pre-landfill) from a community center. There is a sister table (6') that was also rescued and she supports the cook stoves.  Thumbs Up

Hope- don't forget the clothing we recycle, reclaim and reuse.
Does bringing Locally grown/harvested, sustainable, organic foods count???
Those Oysters are sooo Green...
I think Runnamuckers are a little ahead of the curve, The Kaptain even recycles
Neil Young songs...

I like the Hippies comments, good stuff!
If you use propane make certain that it is in a refillable bottle. We have a tree that attaches to our tank and off of this we are able to connect the stove, grill and lantern- heater too if we need it.
Bring a lot of blankets and warm clothing (purchased 2nd hand of course- and washed) so that you do not have to use the propane for warmth.
Always use dishes that need to be washed and biodegradable wash soaps for dishes and personal use.
Walk or bike where you need to go if you can. Use solar lanterns for lights.
Hmmmm, I will have to think of more to add to this list.
Great idea to have this!
